Support - MagicWedge Android

sample imageWe take pride in offering great customer support for our software. We make them and know best how to fix problems that may arise. There are, however, some limitations as to what we can do:

 

* Quick Start

These are the main steps that is required to get your Peripheral and MagicWedge setup for use.

1. Install MagicWedge Driver - You can install the MagicWedge driver from the Android Market Place.

2. Cycle Phone Power
- After installing the MagicWedge driver you must turn off then back on your phone.

3. Pair Your Peripheral with Android / Droid device - Someperipherals must be set to discovery mode while most peripherals automatically enters discovery mode when power is turned on.

4. Select Bluetooth Peripheral - Select your peripheral from MagicWedge Bluetooth device list.

5. Selecting Locale Input Method - Required to input key strokes from peripherals. See below for details on selecting the Local Input Method.

6. Switching to Text Input Method
- Required to input key strokes from peripheral. See below for details on selecting the Text Input Method.

* Parsing Data

The following is a list of modifiers that is supported by MagicWedge:

~     - Reverse strings
#     - Trim numeric format
{n    - Pad or trim left
}n    - Pad or trim right
+nc  - Append c character at possition n
-c    - Trim all c character
<c   - Trim all c characters from left
>c   - Trim all c characters from right
Ln   - Remove n symbols from left
Rn  - Remove n symbols from right

* Setting MagicWedge as Locale Input Method

1. Open the [Locale & Text] manager as shown in the figure on the right.

 

2. Place a check next the [MagicWedge] as shown in the figure on the right.

 

3. Select the [OK] button option to accept the changes as shown in the figure on the right.

 

Note: The previous procedure need only be done once. Android will remember your settings to allow MagicWedge to input characters and commands.

* Setting MagicWedge as Text Input Method

1. Open the [Mail] application as shown in the figure on the right.

2. Place the cursor in one of the text fields as shown in the figure on the right.

3. Press finger in the selected text field and hold until the [Edit Text] dialog is displayed as shown in the figure on the right.

4. Select the [Input Method] option as shown in the figure on the right.

5. Select [MagicWedge] option as shown in the figure on the right.

* Your keyboard is now configured as the primary input device.

* Repeat steps 1-5 and select [Android keyboard] when using device keyboard.

* The previous procedure need only be done once. Android will remember your settings to allow MagicWedge to be the primary input device.

* Troubleshooting Tips

Problem Possible Cause Corrective Action
MagicWedge [Scan] does not find my bluetooth peripheral and returns error. 1. Peripheral not SPP compatible.
2. Device Bluetooth stack corrupted
1. Un-pair peripheral from device and scan again.
2. Turn OFF Bluetooth for 5 seconds then back ON and rescan.
3. Turn OFF device and then back ON and rescan.
4. Enter peripheral MAC address into MagicWedge \ Settings screen manually.
My Peripheral is paired but MagicWedge indicates peripheral is disconnected. Peripheral Address not found. 1. Verify that your peripheral can be found using [Scan] option in settings.
2. Turn OFF Bluetooth for 5 seconds than back ON and retry.
My peripheral is turned on and my driver says it is connected but I can not input using the peripheral. 1. Locale Input Method not configured.
2. Text Input Method not configured.

I hear input sound but no text in input from peripheral. 1. Locale Input Method not configured.

MagicWedge stopped connecting to my peripheral. MagicWedge driver configuration data possibly corrupted. Turn OFF Bluetooth for 5 seconds than back ON and retry.
Can't pair another Bluetooth device to my Android® device when MagicWedge is installed. When MagicWedge is actively searching for the keyboard the Bluetooth Manager becomes busy this prevents new devices from pairing. Try disabling MagicWedge driver by turning off your keyboard.
